FULTS, Betty Ann On March 26, 2020, Betty Ann Fults passed to a more peaceful place. She can again hear the sound of church bells, experience the joy of children laughing and smell the fragrance of spring hyacinths. Betty Ann, a long-time resident of Dallas, was born on February 21, 1936, in Freeport, Texas. She attended high school in Carthage, Texas where as a senior she was named Miss Carthage High School. A few years later, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin University where she was president of her sorority, editor of the Annual and elected Miss Stephen F. Austin. Upon graduation from college, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Fults. While raising their children, Betty Ann received a Master's Degree from Southern Methodist University and a Doctorate in Administrative Leadership from University of North Texas. Upon receipt of her Doctorate she proudly became Dr. Fults and began her pursuit of leadership in public education. Dr. Fults had a fulfilling career as an educator in the Richardson Independent School District; teaching first grade at Bowie Elementary; acting as principal of Mohawk Elementary; acting as Richardson's Executive Director of Research and Development; and in 1985 becoming the Assistant Superintendent over J.J. Pearce High School and its 12 feeder schools and principals. All the while, she worked diligently to mentor women in leadership roles and was later recognized by Richardson YWCA as its first Woman of Excellence. Dr. Fults' service to the community included the Research Committee for the University of Texas at Dallas, the Advisory Board for Program and Evaluation for the Dallas Salesmanship Club, and the Education Committees for the Chambers of Commerce for both Richardson and Dallas. She was an active member of the Women's Council of the Arboretum, a member of the Northwood Women's Club and a proud patron of the Dallas Museum of Art. Betty Ann loved the simple things in life; traveling, gardening at home, and attending movies with friends. She most especially loved spending any time with her grandson. Over the last several years, she found great enjoyment with her friends and their collective involvement in the Northwood Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Emma and Worth Yarborough, her infant son, Trey Brown Fults and her little dog Lily. She is survived by her daughter, Sheri Fults, her son and daughter-in-law, Tracy Fults and Tori Fults and their three children Torchy Adams and her husband Austin, Sam Franklin and James Fults.
