WWII Navy veteran, business owner, committed to the love and support of his wife and family and to the Livingston community
Irwin Sobel, age 92, passed away on March 13, 2020. He was born on June 5, 1927 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Sam and Clara Sobel. Irwin was the youngest of five children.
He was married to the love of his life, Phyllis Sobel, on May 1, 1948. They shared a wonderful life together for 72 years. They were blessed with a loving family, sons David and Mark; daughters-in-law Andrea and Wendy; four devoted grandchildren, Andrew, Julie, Sam, and Barry, and in their later years with four great-grandchildren, Leigha, Ellis, Parker, and Dylan.
Irwin and Phyllis moved to Livingston, N.J., in 1952 and remained residents, where they still resided at the time of his passing.
Irwin had a lifelong commitment to the community and was one of the founding members of Temple Beth Shalom. He could be found for many years on the Little League fields managing his sons, organizing Cub Scout activities, and performing with local theater groups.
Irwin was a Navy veteran who fought in World War II. After the war, he owned a mirror manufacturing firm, Silver Troy Corporation, in Belleville, N.J., for more than 50 years. There were never enough hours in the day to contain his business energy.
In his later years, he wrote and painted, but his primary focus was to love and support in every way possible his wife and his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, N.J. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J.
