Courtney, E. Donald 89, of Weston, Florida, was born in Jamestown, Indiana on December 2, 1930 and passed away on March 8, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents Karl and Mae Courtney and siblings Robert Courtney, William Courtney, and Betty Rowen. He served his country proudly, joining the United States Air Force at the age of fifteen and served during World War ll, including the Berlin Airlift. Upon returning home he embarked on a highly successful, seven decades long career highlighted by corporate entrepreneurship. He was the creator of many different companies, including serving as the President and CEO of DECO, ECO, Tempo Lighting, Inc., the American Stock Exchange listed SOI Industries, Inc., Magnatech Corporation, and Investech, Ltd.. He was in partnership with International Modeling and Talent Association, and served as chairman of MDinTouch US, Inc.. He also served on the Board of Encore Wire Corporation from 1990 to 2020. His other career and passion was race car driving. He began racing in 1973, and was a two time National Champion in the Formula Vee Division in 1978 and 1981. He was a longtime GTO, GTP and Lights driver, and active in the SCCA Florida Region as a race official. His love of golf started at the age of twelve as a caddy, and his competitive spirit never wavered. His first solo flight as a pilot was in 1960, and he was the proud owner of many planes. He was an avid patriot and member of American Legion Post 400. Above all he was devoted to his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Jean Courtney, children Sheila Cox and Michele Beal, grandchildren Matthew Cox and wife Jenna, Melissa Cox, Courtney Goode, Christopher Beal, Cassidy Beal, Ethan Beal, and great grandchildren Wilder Goode and Hannah Cox. University Dr., Davie, Florida, 33324, on Sunday, March 15 from 3 - 6 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1301 S.W. 136th Ave., Davie, FL, 33325, Monday, March 16 at 9:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 South State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL, 33068. Family and friends will gather to share memories at Acquolina, 2320 Weston Rd., Weston, FL 33326.
