Centenarian will be greatly missed by family and friends
Elizabeth B. McElwee (nee Stohl) passed away on March 2, 2020, surrounded by her family at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, N.J. A first generation American, she was born in Elizabeth, N.J., on June 20, 1918, to John Stohl and Maria Kerstner, immigrants from Hungary. In 1939 she married Joseph C. McElwee. Together they had six children.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Maria in 1927 and John in 1949, her husband, Joseph in 1973, her son, Joseph Jr. in 1999 and her granddaughter, Dawn DeRobbio in 2019; her siblings: John Stohl, Mary Brown, Matthew Stohl and half-siblings: Theresa Canterella, Helen Rhodes, Barbara Hahr and Joseph Stohl. She is survived by her children: Mary Ann Van Ness, Patricia (Richard) Cudd, James (Lorraine) McElwee, Charles (Laurie Lewis) McElwee, and Debra Mills. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Beth Valentine (Bill) Caldes, Kim Valentine (Brian Fahey), Laurie (Michael) Wiley, Janet Booth, Sharon (Mark) Wirant, Patricia (James) Cooper, Donna (Sheldon) Kohl, April (Craig) Pierce, James (Sue) McElwee; as well as 20 great-grandchildren: Liam and Jonathan Caldes, Arianna (Nick) Dyer, Jackson Valentine, Aidan Fahey, Sean, Erin, Brenna and Morgan Wiley, James Kasey, Kevin and Kelly Cooper, Sheldon and Samantha Kohl, Matthew and Rachel Booth, Hunter Pierce, Audrey Sullivan and Shawn McElwee and three great-great-grandchildren: Matthew, Timothy and Benjamin Dyer.
Elizabeth will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Monday, March 9 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 100 Willow Bend Rd., Marlton, N.J. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, N.J.
