Bishop James H. Everett II, 74, of South Orange, N.J., departed this life on Jan. 24, 2020. He was born Dec. 13, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late James H. and Martha Doretha Everett.
He was an astounding, intellectually astute steward of the word, completing his academic studies at New York City Community College, Long Island University, and achieving his doctorate of sacred theology from United Christian College. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Bishop James H. Everett II, bishop and senior pastor of the Deliverance Jesus is Coming Church and presiding prelate of the Deliverance Jesus is Coming Association of Churches, served the community of worshippers in Essex County and surrounding vicinities for over 43 years.
As prelate of Deliverance Jesus is Coming Association, he served as the "pastor's pastor," covering churches and ministry leaders throughout the country, spanning the nation, and globally including: Charlotte, N.C., Port St. Lucie, Fla., Denver; Jackson, Miss., Union, N.J.; Newark, N.J., Kearny, N.J.; Jersey City, N.J.; Fredericksburg, Va.; New Brunswick, N.J.; Teaneck, N.J.; Ewing, N.J.; East Orange, N.J.; Elizabeth, N.J.; Bowie, Md; Brooklyn, Bronx, N.Y., and Rochester, N.Y.; Birmingham, Ala.; Cleveland; Haiti; London, England; Paris, France; Poland; Germany and Trinidad, W.I.
He served as an executive board member (emeritus) for the Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops and was a former board member of the Monument International Church Assemblies.
He leaves to cherish precious memories to his devoted wife, Lady Vanessa (Horton) Everett; one daughter, Solange; three grandchildren, James Xavier, Azjah Dale, and So'Miyah Skye; one aunt, Ruth Nealy (Walter); three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host nieces, nephews and cousins; one very special brother, Bishop R.K. Lassiter and sister, Evangelist, Shirley J. Graham; and his Deliverance Jesus is Coming Church Family and Association of Churches, whom he served faithfully 43 years.
Celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Deliverance Jesus is Coming Church, 815 Springfield Ave., Irvington, N.J., with visitation from 12 noon to 6 p.m. The service is Sunday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Wells Cathedral Church, 672 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd., Newark, with visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. Arrangements are by Bragg Funeral Home.
