Deanne M. D'Armiento, 50, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at the New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center, 43 months after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Deanne was grateful for the care she received.
Deanne was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to parents Basil and Lydia D'Armiento. She was raised in North Plainfield, N.J., attending North Plainfield High School. She subsequently enrolled in Lehigh University where she obtained both her bachelor's and master's degree in education.
Deanne returned to teach in the district she loved in 1994, when she became a middle school teacher. She coached high school track and field for over 25 years and also coached girls' basketball, girls' tennis and was a staff member for the varsity football team. She was an active member of the St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield.
Deanne drew great satisfaction from teaching and coaching and wholeheartedly gave of herself to her students, friends and family. She was a creative person, which was expressed in her teaching and in her spare time; crocheting, solving puzzles and shopping. She especially cherished the company of many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
In facing her disease she was resilient in her spirit and maintained her gentle nature throughout. She valued every moment to be in the company of those she loved spreading her kindness to all who interacted with her.
Deanne was predeceased by her loving father, Basil A. D'Armiento, in 2010.
Deanne is survived by her mother, Lydia D'Armiento; siblings, Basil and his wife, Maria; Edward and his wife, Lori; Jeanine and her husband, Kiran; Geralyn and Lidia; nieces and nephews, Caitlin, Eddie, Timothy, Angela, Philip, Matthew Molinari, Stephen, Kamran Chada, Kavin Chada, and Robert Molinari. Deanne is also survived by many dear friends.
A visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, N.J. A Mass of the Resurrection is Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church, 300 Clinton Ave., North Plainfield. Interment is private.
A memorial scholarship will be created in Deanne's memory. The scholarship will be awarded to North Plainfield students who are majoring in education with career goals to become a teacher.
