Aldona M. Boyle
Beloved wife and mother, career educator
Aldona M. Boyle, formerly of Summit, N.J., beloved wife and mother, passed away on Feb. 9, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 87.
The youngest of eight children, she was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Polish immigrants. Aldona was an honor student at Perth Amboy High School and received a full academic scholarship to Douglass College at Rutgers University, where she majored in History. She later received an M.A. in Art History from Montclair State College.
Aldona pursued her career as an educator, first teaching 7th/8th grade at Stelton Elementary School in Edison Township. Later she taught Social Studies at Edison High School and J.P. Stevens High School. Aldona played an active role in the League of Women Voters in Edison and was a member of the JFK Medical Center Planning Committee. She was honored in 1961 by the New York Times for introducing its subscription service to Edison Township school students. After moving from Middlesex County, she focused her efforts on her family, before returning to her final teaching position at St. Casimir's Parochial School in Newark, N.J.
Aldona is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles A. Boyle, her daughters, June Boyle and Cara Boyle, her sons-in-law, Gary Plotch and Craig Mende and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave, Summit. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Morris Ave., Summit. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, N.J.
