Charles B. Carson, M.D., Ph.D., D.Div.

Dr. Charles B. Carson passed away in Winter Park, Fla., on Jan. 12, 2020. Dr. Carson was a respected and well-known Newark, N.J., physician.
He graduated from Howard University with both a master of science degree and his doctorate of philosophy in zoology, where he conducted pioneering research in DNA and RNA transcription.
While still in D.C., Dr. Carson taught science and biology at The University of the District of Columbia and to aspiring inmates at Lorton State Prison in Virginia.
Dr. Carson was a lifelong learner as he went on to achieve his medical degree at The University of Medicine and Dentistry (Rutgers New Jersey Medical School) Newark, in 1978, specializing in pediatrics and adolescent medicine.
Dr. Carson established a successful pediatrics practice for over 35 years and continued his education earning a doctorate of divinity from the New York Theological Seminary.
He went on to serve as associate pastor at Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, N.J., and founded an AIDS ministry at St. Michael's Hospital, Newark. He also served as a medical volunteer on numerous missions to Haiti and Uganda.
Dr. Carson was married to the former Bettye J. Evans. He was the proud father of Charlynne Carson-Coley (Daren Coley) and grandfather of Kris Mathis Jr.
Dr. Carson's celebration of life will be at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 425 W. Welbourne Ave., Winter Park, Fla., on Thursday, Jan. 23 followed by private interment at Pineywood Cemetery, Winter Park.
