MOORE, Betty Jane Betty Jane Moore went home to her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in her Dallas, Texas home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Charles Terrell McCarthy and her infant daughter, Elizabeth Jane Moore. Her husband of 68 years, Joseph Tatum ("J.T.") Moore, Jr., survives her along with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Ed Palms of Denver and her son and daughter-in-law, Tatum and Kimberly Moore of Austin. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Elizabeth Palms of Denver, and Lillian Moore, Sydney Moore, and Aiden Moore, all of Austin. Born Betty Jane McCarthy in Liberty, Texas on February 7, 1931 to Dr. Charles Terrell McCarthy and Margaret Andrews McCarthy, she grew up in Monahans, Texas and graduated from Monahans High School. She attended Stephens College in Missouri transferring after her first year to Southern Methodist University and then transferring again to the University of Texas where she studied home economics and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Betty Jane met J.T. on a blind date at an A&M party, and they married three years later on September 11, 1951 in Monahans. The couple ultimately settled in West Texas, first in Balmorhea and later in Pecos, and Betty Jane began her what she considered to be her most important work: being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a remarkable seamstress, avid bridge player, and consummate cook and hostess. Betty Jane and J.T. retired to Dallas in 1983, where Betty Jane continued her lifelong involvement in the Methodist church at Highland Park United Methodist Church. She and J.T. continued to travel the world together. Her family remembers her as a wonderful woman of Christ and loving, steadfast daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. A celebration of Betty Jane's life will be held in Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Friday, January 17 at 10 a.m. A reception at the church will follow the service.
