WWII Navy veteran, loving family man, church custodian
August J. Sica, 99, of Andover, N.J., died on Jan. 7, 2020.
Relatives and friends are invited for Memorial Visitation on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, N.J. 07068, shookfarmer.com. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Roseland, N.J.
Born and raised in Hoboken, N.J., he moved to Union City, N.J., and settled in Roseland in 1969. During World War II he honorably served in the U.S. Navy. Afterwards, he worked as a custodian at St. John's Church in Jersey City, N.J., and retired from Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Roseland.
August was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Sica, and six of his siblings. He is survived by his beloved children, Ann Chanas (James), Rosetta LaVeglia (Anthony), Joseph Sica (Elaine), Mary Olson, Francis Sica, Louis Sica (Yvette), Auguste Sica, Bernadette Simmons (Garry), Dolores Sica, Angela Nolan (Thomas), and Gerard Sica (Katherine); 24 loving grandchildren; 25 cherished great-grandchildren; dear siblings, Joseph Sica (Lucy) and Theresa Marotta (Charlie); caring sisters-in-law, Marilyn Sica and Margaret 'Margie' Sica, and brother-in-law, Raymond Carney.
