SHORT, Audrey John Washington Audrey John Washington Short, 88, of Garland, passed away Friday, December 6, 2019. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, December 27, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, TX 75081, followed by an interment at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Audrey, whose nickname was "Shorty," was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, Class of 1954. He was a career Army officer and veteran who served in Korea and in Vietnam. He always loved his military service, which was interesting and varied, including work in Artillery, in Intelligence and as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After Vietnam, he served as a battalion commander of the 2nd Battalion, 14th Artillery, Second Armored Division at Fort Hood in Texas. He later retired and worked for the Salvation Army and for Seven Eleven. He volunteered for many years with the Veterans of Foreign Wars chapters in the area. He later moved to Garland, Texas to be near his children and grandchildren. Audrey is survived by his children Kathleen Banks (Ben Banks), John Short (Patsy Short), and Susanne Short; grandchildren Hunter, Brian and Katherine Banks, and Ryan and Erin Short; his extended family in Alabama, including sisters Ila Vee Becker (Bertrand Becker) and Irene Counts (widow of Joe Counts) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Micielo Muncaster Short, both his parents Clyde and Vina Short, brothers Clyde Odis "Bill" Short and Franklin Short, sisters Nelladean Small, Faith Carroll, Charity Free and Hope Short.
