Anna Szczepanik, 92, of Elizabeth, N.J., passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at Community Hospital in Toms River, N.J., with her daughter, Ellen Szczepanik, at her bedside.
Anna was born in Elizabeth to Anna and John Schafer on May 2, 1927. She attended St. Michael's Grammar School and Battin High School. She married Benedict Szczepanik on Dec. 30, 1950, and was a communicant at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church for her entire life. She was active in the Rosary Society, Cana, Girl Scouts and St. Michael's Parish activities.
Helping the Nuns of Christian Charity was a heartfelt focus for Mom. She was employed at Singer Manufacturing Company, Harmonia Savings Bank, Elizabeth General Hospital and the Union County Court House. Anna enjoyed quality time with her family, laughing with good friends, summers at the Jersey shore, cooking and collecting her Hummels.
Anna is survived by her three daughters, MaryAnne Waddington of Lawton, Pa., Ellen Szczepanik of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Kathleen Szczepanik of Toms River, and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Anna was predeceased by her husband, Benedict B. Szczepanik; parents, Anna and John Schafer; brother, John Schafer, and son-in-law, Mark C. Waddington.
She is also survived by her sister, Marie Duff; son-in-law, Dante Massa, several nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
