Barbara E. Voorhees
Had long career with Atlantic Health, created specialty quilts, sparkled in conversation, and 'made life easier for all she knew'
Barbara E. Voorhees, 60, of New Providence, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019.
Barbara was born on Jan. 4, 1959 in Westerleigh, Staten Island, N.Y. She was the daughter of James and Adelaide (nee Hunsdorfer) Drubel.
Raised in Maplewood, N.J., she was a graduate of Columbia High School and received her Bachelor's in English from Drew University. Early in her career, Barbara focused on health services and worked at Atlantic Health in various departments for over 30 years.
Barbara was dedicated to helping others. She was tireless in her efforts. Barbara's thoughtfulness and consideration of innumerable details were all focused to make life easier for all she knew.
Barbara loved the serenity of old movies, the coziness of country cottages and the beauty of nature. A warm fire alongside the muted sunshine of a cool day, shared with the husband she loved beyond words, were the moments she cherished.
Barbara relished sharing a great meal with family and friends and was a wine connoisseur. Never at a loss for words, she could orchestrate the conversation at any gathering.
Barbara enjoyed quilting, having created several, each unique in their own regard, and shared them with family and friends. Barbara was invigorated by riding bicycles and taking hikes in the woods.
An extraordinary caregiver and role model, Barbara helped raise her nieces and nephews, imparting sensitive words of wisdom and guidance that will always be remembered.
Barbara prioritized the needs of others over her own and gave of herself without hesitation.
She is survived by her husband of 11 years, Robert Voorhees; parents, James and Adelaide Drubel; in-laws, Arthur and Marion Voorhees; sister and sister in-law, Katie Drubel and Jude Hines; brother and sister in-law, James and Terri Drubel, and brother and sister in-law, Russell and Angie Voorhees. She was the loving aunt to Julia, Lindsay, Matthew, James, Megan and Devin. She will be missed by her cats, Sebastian, Katrina, Max and China II.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Words of Remembrance to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Chatham, N.J. 07928.
