Irina Johnson, 19, passed away suddenly on Nov. 16, 2019, at her home in Plainfield, N.J.
Born in Russia, Irina grew up in New Jersey, having attended The Sundance School, Wardlaw-Hartridge, Rutgers Preparatory, and Hunterdon Preparatory.
An avid tennis player, Irina played throughout her high school years, even winning a state championship in doubles during her time at Rutgers Prep. A great lover of music and poetry, she sang in a rock-and-roll band.
A volunteer with the Plainfield Rescue Squad, Irina hoped to pursue a career in medicine upon graduation from college. She attended Middlesex Community College. Her kindness, empathy and her quirky sense of humor endeared her to many.
Irina is survived by her loving parents, Thomas Johnson and Lee Keough; her grandparents, Jack and Joan Keough of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; her uncles, George Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla., and Eric Johnson, of Taos, N.M.; her uncle and aunt, Ryan and Sigrid Keough of Harrison, N.Y., and their children, Olivia and Liam; and her uncle and aunt John and Kate Keough of San Francisco, Calif., and their children Clara and Anna.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, N.J., on Wednesday Nov. 20, from 4 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., at St. Bartholomew R.C.
