Alex M. Astone, 93, of Union, N.J., passed away on Oct. 21, 2019.
The funeral from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union, on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. A Funeral Mass is at St. Michaels Church in Union at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth, N.J. Born in Newark, N.J., Alex lived in Union for the past 63 years. He was an engineer at Western Electric, later AT&T in Newark for over 30 years before retiring. Alex served in the U.S. Army, and assisted the Japanese civilian police in securing Japan after World War II ended. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, where he participated in charitable work.
Alex was the beloved husband of Catherine (nee Barrett) Astone; loving father of Michael Astone and his wife, Janice, Patrick Astone and his wife, June, Catherine De Luca and her husband, Michael, and the late Thomas Astone. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Roxanne, and was the dear brother of Sylvia Signorello, Josephine Cicero, and the late Gino, Victor, Italo, and Tina Astone. He was also the cherished grandfather of A.J., KateLynn, Laura and Bridget.
