Alicia M. 'Lee' Glennon
Loving wife, mother, and "Mimi," compassionate nurse, 64
Alicia M. Glennon (nee Backus), 64, of Piscataway, N.J., passed away on Sept. 30, 2019, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Alicia was born in Jersey City, N.J., and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked at St. Mary's in Hoboken, N.J., then Riverside/Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, N.J., following graduation.
Since 2005, she served as a nurse at Dr. Maryann Huhn-Werner's office in Mountainside, N.J. Lee was dependable and competent, a warm, compassionate nurse loved by both staff and patients. She provided unique support and comfort to patients struggling with breast cancer, having battled the disease herself years ago.
Alicia was a loving wife, mother and "Mimi" to her two grandchildren and above all, cherished family and friends. She had a talent for making those around her feel deeply loved, always putting others first. She would always take the time to lend a supportive ear and served as the family's sounding board with the uncanny ability to be completely present with another person. Her generosity and selflessness were an inspiration to all who have known her.
When not spending time with her family and friends, Lee enjoyed shopping, with a particular fondness for QVC, and spending time at the beach, especially Cape May - her happy place. More recently, Lee discovered her more adventurous and competitive side, completing the Spring Lake Five-Mile Run each of the last 10 years, the Polar Bear Plunge in Asbury Park on New Year's Day for the last four years, and a Sprint triathlon in Sandy Hook.
Alicia is survived by her husband, Kevin; her mother, Claire Backus; son, James and his wife Erica; and daughter, Maura and partner Carlos Delgado.
She is also survived by her sisters and their spouses, Cathy and Dennis Hammer, Roseanne and Jim McDonald, Amy and Dr. Hugo Quinones; her brothers and their spouses, Michael and Barbara and Danny and Susan Backus; grandchildren, Nala and Carlos Delagdo, with baby Glennon expected in March 2020. Alicia is also survived by numerous loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, N.J. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Dunellen. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, N.J.
