Audrey Rae Riskin Rasin
Active volunteer in Passaic-Clifton community, 93
Audrey Rae Riskin Rasin, a native of Passaic, N.J., passed away on Sept. 9, 2019, at the age of 93, in Providence, R.I., where she had resided for the past 10 years.
The daughter of the late Jacob Riskin and Anna Saperstein Riskin, Audrey graduated from New York University where she majored in retailing.
In September 1948, she met her late husband, Dr. Carl Rasin, and they married in May 1949. Audrey introduced Carl to the game of golf on their honeymoon, and they enjoyed playing together and taking golf vacations for the duration of their devoted 59-year marriage.
Audrey and Carl had four children who were encouraged to excel in school and sports, Jay, Glenn (married to Michelle), Beth, and Deborah Jacobson (married to David.) Audrey is also survived by seven grandchildren, Joshua (married to Amy), Jennifer, Pamela Meluskey (married to David), Julia, and Ana Jacobson, and Alyssa and Mei Rasin-Waters. She was also a great-grandmother to Benson and Ezra, who brought her great joy in her last years.
Audrey was an active volunteer in the Passaic-Clifton community. She spearheaded fundraisers for the PTA of Franklin No. 3 School in Passaic, served as a president of the Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel and was the first woman president of the Passaic-Clifton YM-YWHA. After moving to Delray Beach, Fla., in 1987 upon husband Carl's retirement from the practice of obstetrics and gynecology, Audrey became active in the Hamlet community where they lived and took classes at Florida Atlantic University.
Audrey was an excellent cook whose generous hospitality was often appreciated by her friends and the friends of her children. She maintained an active interest in fitness activities, playing tennis in addition to golf, swimming, and walking. Audrey also recycled before the term had even been coined, washing and reusing plastic bags, cutlery, and containers.
Upon learning of her passing, a friend of 90 years noted that "Audrey was one of a kind." One of her children's friends said, "She was such an elegant lady and I always felt welcome in her home." At Audrey's last residence in Providence, an assisted living community, the residents and staff often remarked on her beautiful smile, her sense of humor, snappy clothes, and her graciousness.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 841 Allwood Road, Clifton, N.J., followed by interment at King Solomon Memorial Park, 550 Dwasline Rd., Clifton, N.J. 07012.
