Antoinette Villano
Loving sister, aunt and cousin, retired travel agent with a 'generous soul' and 'a passion for her family,' of Newark
Antoinette Villano, 75, a longtime resident of the Newark, N.J., area, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019.
The funeral will be conducted from the Buyus Funeral Home, 426 Lafayette St., Newark, on Friday, Sept. 6. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 259 Oliver St., Newark, at 10:30 a.m. Her interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, Sept. 6, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Buyus Funeral Home. For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit www.buyusfuneralhome.com.
Born on July 11, 1944, and raised in Newark, Nettie, as she was known to family, and Toni as she was known in business, had resided in Newark and in Fairlawn, N.J.
Nettie loved socializing with her family at Normandy Beach, especially on holidays. She enjoyed a good book, rock music, classic movies and clever T.V. Although not known for her culinary skills, she enjoyed great food and was the best person to sit next to at a dinner party.
A generous soul, she was known to freely give away statement necklaces (or fabulous jackets) when commented on by an admiring sister or niece. Her sharp mind and quick wit came in handy in business and in the endless rounds of family Whist games.
Nettie had a passion for her family and was the confidant or consiglieri of sorts to family members seeking advice about a problem. She had a flare for decorating (particularly Christmas trees) and an outstanding fashion sense.
Toni worked as a travel agent for over 50 years. She started her career at Essex Travel in Newark and took a position at Travel Four in Paramus, N.J., until her retirement. Nettie sent many family members on their honeymoons, first trips abroad, business trips and school trips. Her encyclopedic knowledge of the travel world and networking benefited many clients and family wayfarers.
Nettie was the beloved daughter of the late Peter Villano Sr. and the late Rose Villano; loving sister of Margaret Vishia (Tom), Peter Villano (Janet), Georgianna Grieco (Ted) and George Villano (Mary). Nettie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be especially missed by her cousin and best friend, Antoinette Nasto.
