SHIPMAN, Donald A. Don Shipman passed away May 10, 2019, in Houston, TX. He was born in Somervell Co., TX, on February 20, 1930, to Herman and Arline Bell Shipman. The family moved to Dallas in 1940, and Don earned a reputation as a dependable, hard worker even while still a child. He met the love of his life, Betty Jean Giles, in 1949, and they wed in 1952 after he returned from serving in Korea as part of the 2nd Infantry of the US Army. They moved to Richardson in 1956 and were a steady, faithful presence in the community for many decades. After a 51 year career at Mrs. Baird's Bakeries, Don retired in 1995 and enjoyed spending more time singing, playing the guitar, and visiting friends and family. He moved to Houston in 2015 to be closer to his children. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, his sister Novella Maw, and his brothers, Clifford, Lloyd, and Dennis "Frank" Shipman. Don is survived by his brother Larry (Shirley), sister Mary Pernetta McCoy, sons Ray (Kathy) and Richard (Mary), daughter Donna Reid (Rob), ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, at 2:30 PM, Restland Memorial Chapel in Dallas with a visitation on Sunday, May 19, 4:00-6:00 PM at Restland.
