RATCLIFFE, Beverly Beverly "Becky" DeShong Ratcliffe was called home by her Lord Jesus Christ on March 3, 2019. She was born on January 11, 1928 in Greenville, Texas to Lloyd Matthews and Ruth Hicks DeShong. Becky moved with her parents and sisters, Virginia and Dell, to Paris, Texas at the age of four, where she graduated from high school on D-Day, June 6, 1944. She retained a deep love for Paris as well as her family and friends from there throughout her life. Becky enrolled at SMU, graduating in 1948 with a B.A. in sociology. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and later served on its housing corporation board as an alumna. On March 17, 1951, Becky married fellow SMU graduate Morelle "Moe" K. Ratcliffe, Jr. For the remainder of their lives, they resided in Dallas, raising two sons. The salient characteristics of Becky's life were her deep faith in Jesus Christ and service to others. Her grandfather, Rev. Robert C. Hicks, was a Methodist minister in Northeast Texas and she received a strong grounding in her Christian faith from her parents. A serious student of Scripture for the rest of her life, Becky attended home Bible studies and listened to radio ministries; she was instrumental in her sons' coming to faith in Christ at a young age. Becky's hospitality at all hours extended far beyond her family to her wide circle of friends of all ages and social backgrounds (which included her sons' friends). They enjoyed her excellent cooking and had fun being with her, reveling in her stories and sense of humor, which she never lost. She is survived by her sons, Sam Ratcliffe (Cristi) of Dallas and Robert Ratcliffe (Debbie) of Bryan, Texas, grandchildren Ryan Ratcliffe (Andrea), Bryce Ratcliffe (Katie), Catherine Ratcliffe Denney (Justin), and Caroline Ratcliffe, two great-grandsons, and eight nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life will be Monday, March 11, 2019 at 2:00pm at Believers Chapel, 6420 Churchill Way, Dallas, TX 75230.
