HUGGINS, Charlene Charlene Huggins, wife of Dr. Sam Huggins of Irving, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019, surrounded by loving friends and family. She went to be welcomed by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for eternity. Born in Abilene, Texas on June 5, 1928 to Maudie C. Smith Winter and Charles Byron Winter. Her father died when she was seven and she lived with many different relatives in many towns including San Angelo, Lampasas, Austin and Fort Worth. She attended 13 schools before graduating from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth when she was 16. She graduated from T.C.U. School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She also graduated from St. Joseph's School of Anesthesia for her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Degree. She also received a degree in Health Care Administration from Texas A&M at Commerce in 1978. She was the OB-Gyn supervisor at Irving Community Hospital when it first opened in 1964 until she left in 1968 to attend Anesthesia School. She worked at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas for two years, then practiced free-lance anesthesia working cases for Dr. Luis Leib and Donald Klein among others. She retired from anesthesia in 1985 to travel with her then husband, Sterling Bradley, who was an E.E. Engineer with Bell Helicopter. After his death in 1987 she went back to work in Day Surgery as an RN at ICH, now Bayor-Irving. Dr. Huggins was widowed shortly after Charlene was and they were brought together by the day surgery nurses. They married December 29, 1994. They spent 17 happy years together. They enjoyed their churches, travel, family, entertaining in their home, attending fund raisers, plays, and symphonies. Dr. Huggins passed in 2012. Charlene is survived by her three sons; Steven Miles and wife Shelly; Daniel Miles and wife Kathy; Drew Miles and wife Heidi; and also four grandchildren; Melissa, Alison, Eli, and Travis. The loving children of Sam; Jim Huggins and wife Mary; Johnny Huggins and wife Renee, Susie Stephenson and husband Ben; Jerry Huggins and former wife Tammy; Jeff Huggins and wife Rhonda; also, eleven loving grandchildren; Jenni, Matt, Ashley, Samantha, Courtney, Paul, Cory, Christopher, Cara, Connor, Claire; and also thirteen great-grandchildren, all beautiful and smart. She was an active member of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of Irving Healthcare foundation Guild, Irving Community Theater Guild, Irving Symphony League, former active member of Irving Republican Women's Club, and a supporter of Lyric Stage. Memorial Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, 3650 North O'Connor Road in Irving. A celebration of life catered reception will follow in Hancock Hall at Woodhaven. The family invites everyone to come share memories and food with them. If you have a favorite photo, please bring it with you. A private interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens under the direction of Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home of Irving.
