CENTER (CUFF), Cynthia Katherine Cynthia was born on February 2, 1933 in Denison, Texas to Alice Glakin Cuff and James Anthony (Quinny) Cuff and died peacefully on May 17, 2019. Cynthia is preceded in death by her husband, John Lloyd Center. Cynthia was fortunate to have a childhood marked by a close knit family with many loving extended family members living with her and her parents in Denison. Of all her many childhood stories, perhaps the most beloved was the tales of her grandfather picking her up from school on horseback with her classmates envious of her escort. The Cuff's where dedicated parishioners of Saint Patrick Catholic Church where Cynthia formed her devotion to her faith. Cynthia attended Denison High School and graduated a proud Yellow Jacket in 1951. Shortly before graduating, Cynthia met John Center after John had relocated to Denison with his parents. A friend of John's was courting Cynthia and suggested that John and a group of boys should help him garner Cynthia's attention by throwing firecrackers on the Cuff's front yard. After the episode, the boys were "apprehended" by Cynthia's father. Of the boy's apprehended, as the story goes, John accepted responsibility and expressed to Mr. and Mrs. Cuff a desire to make amends. John so impressed the Cuff's that the following day, Cynthia's mother said to her, "I hope you marry someone like that nice John Center." Cynthia and John were married within a year on February 24, 1952. Cynthia and John began a family shortly thereafter, and moved to Austin, Dallas, Kingston, NY while following John's education and employment where they ultimately moved back to Dallas in 1958 and settled there. Cynthia and John were married for 54 years until John's passing in 2006. Cynthia dedicated her life to her family and raising her five children. Cynthia was a voracious reader and loved an intellectual conversation on a wide range of topics. While a young adult, Cynthia familiarised herself with the civil rights movement and became a vocal proponent of civil, equal and human rights for all. A perspective that was not all together popular in her environment at the time and yet she was outspoken about such, especially to her children. Perhaps her greatest legacy was the desire to effectuate the Golden Rule. Cynthia is survived by her son John L. Center Jr. of Coppell, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jeff Richmond of Tarpon Springs, Florida, daughter Carey Hughes of Midland, Michigan, son and daughter-in- law Brian and Margaret Center of Austin, Texas, daughter Courtney Center of Dallas, Texas, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Cynthia is also survived by and preceded in death by a host of friends with note to her long time and best friends Sara Solell and Nancy Perry. Finally Cynthia is survived by her parish family of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and her beloved St. Joseph's Guild which served as perhaps the most meaningful source of love and support from her early adult years to her death. She cherished her fellow members of the Guild and so loved that tight-knit group intensely.
