Mother of six and the 'first lady' of Monroe Twp., an ace at bocce
Carole (Lombardo) Tamburro, 83, of Monroe Township, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., surrounded by her loving family.
Carole was born in Newark, N.J., and raised in Nutley, N.J. She lived in East Brunswick, N.J., before moving to Monroe Twp. 22 years ago.
Carole was employed as a home economics teacher before raising her family. She later went on to work with the Social Security Administration, where she was employed for 15 years before her retirement.
Carole was president of the Greenbriar Whittingham Bocce Club and led them to a championship victory in 2013. She was also an active member of the Senior Social Club at Greenbriar and past treasurer of the Italian American Club. She loved cooking, baking, playing mahjong and canasta, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Carole was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Lubertazzi (2013). She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Mayor Gerald Tamburro of Monroe Twp.; two sons: Gerald Tamburro, Jr. and his wife, June, of Bridgewater, N.J., and Peter Tamburro and his wife, Alba, of Monroe Twp.; four daughters: JoEllen Schmidt of Shallotte, N.C.; Susan Kinsey and her husband, Kevin of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Lynn Manza of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Cynthia Lombardi of Robbinsville, N.J.; and one sister, Dolores Stanek of Little Falls, N.J.
She also leaves nine grandchildren: Kristen Tamburro, Jayme Schmidt, Alex Schmidt, Johnny Tamburro, Grant Kinsey, Olivia Lombardi, Marissa Manza, Caroline Kinsey and Joseph Manza and three great-grandchildren: Acacia, Benjamin and Cayden.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., N.J. 08831. Funeral services will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 9:30 a.m. on Monday at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 followed by committal and cremation at Holy Cross Burial Park Crematory Chapel, South Brunswick, N.J.
