Anne R. Romano of Mountainside, N.J., passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the age of 96.
The visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit, N.J., on Monday, March 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Ave., Mountainside, followed by the burial at St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit. Anne was born in New Providence, N.J., and resided in Berkeley Heights, N.J., before moving to Mountainside, where she resided since 1961. Anne was a graduate of Montclair State Teachers College and received her master's degree from Rutgers University. She spent her entire career as an educator, working at Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield, N.J.
Anne began her career as a history teacher at the school and worked in the guidance dept., and as an assistant principal before retiring as principal at the age of 65. During her tenure at Dayton Regional High School, Anne was extremely dedicated to the students. She attended every sporting event, school play, musical, and anything school related, as often as she could.
Anne loved to take long walks and especially enjoyed long weekends spent in Spring Lake and Manasquan at the Jersey shore.
Anne was predeceased by her beloved parents, Michael A. and Estelle (nee Jacobs) Romano. She is survived by her dear cousins, Richard E. Romano and his wife, Marilyn of Dunellen, N.J., and Lynn Chromey and her husband, Steven of Montgomery, Ala. She is also survived by her dear lifelong family friend, Betsy Palmer-Bislick of Brick, N.J., and her friend and caregiver, Luiza Pirveli of Staten Island, N.Y.
