Anthony (Tony) Joseph Rodrigues, 91, of Kearny, N.J., passed away on June 25, 2019 at his daughter's home in Newton, N.J., in the company of his loving family.
The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, N.J., on Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Cecilia Church, Kearny, at 12 noon. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Friday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. Condolences and memories may be shared at thiele-reid.com.
Born in Scranton, Pa., to Jose and Eliza (nee Funtes) Rodrigues, Anthony had four siblings, Delmont, Cecilia, Daniel and Sylvia. In his youth, he was gifted at baseball, basketball and swimming.
Tony was a hard worker, spending 30 years as a welder at Otis Elevator in Harrison, N.J., and 15 years at BND Manufacturing in Bloomfield, N.J., before retiring in 1989. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Knights of Columbus, Council 402, Harrison.
An enthusiastic Yankee fan, Mr. Rodrigues watched every game, knew every player and could recall stats from years past. His sense of humor never failed to make his friends and family laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (nee Postler) Rodrigues; two daughters, Carolyn Hull and her husband, John, and Renee Thomas and her husband, Russell; one sister, Sylvia Reap, and six grandchildren, John Anthony, Christopher, Patrick, Daniel Matthew and Alexis.
