Former Carteret resident, '78 years young'
Barbara Barlow McCormick passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019, at her home in Manchester Township, N.J. She was 78 years young.
Born in Newark, N.J., she resided in Carteret for many years before moving to Manchester in 2001.
Mrs. McCormick worked as a supervisor and special event planner at Royal Foods in Carteret for many years. She volunteered with the Lots for Little Shoppe in Lakewood, N.J., to benefit Kimball Medical Center, and with the Strand Theater, also in Lakewood.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew P. McCormick Sr., in 2008, and many sisters and brothers.
Surviving are her children, Andrew Jr. and his wife, Aileen of Bellaire, Texas; Barbara McCormick and Daniel Sobreiro of Port Reading, N.J.; Gary McCormick and his wife, Denise of Washington Township, N.J., and Darlene Mansueto and her husband, Peter of Gardena, Calif.; sister, Geraldine Beck and her husband, Art of Lancaster, Pa.; brother, William Barlow and his wife, Beverly of Toms River, N.J.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jenna, Andrew III (Drew), Sean, Connor and Katie McCormick; grandchildren of the heart, Greg (Andrea), Danny (Gabrielle) and Joey (Jade) Sobreiro. Barbara was "Big Gam" to Deanna, Greg and Drew and "Big Gummy" to Adriana and Gia. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 1, at 8:30 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green St., Woodbridge, N.J. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading. Entombment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, N.J. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lots for Little Shoppe, 1328 River Ave., Lakewood, N.J. 08701 or Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 436 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading, N.J. 07064 in Mrs. McCormick's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
