Alverna N. Hardy, 94, made her transition March 29, 2019.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 12 noon at St. Leo Church, 103 Myrtle Ave., Irvington, N.J. Interment is at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Visitation is Friday at 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Arrangements are by Whigham Funeral Home.
Born in Apalachicola, Fla., Alverna was a resident of Irvington for 51 years and a former resident of Newark, N.J.
She was a retired dietician at VA Hospital, East Orange, N.J.
Alverna was the beloved mother of Janet V. Smith; dear daughter of the late Amos Nelson and Jeanette Watson-Nelson, and the loving sister of James and Phillip Nelson.
She is also survived by one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
