Lifelong Rahway and Clark resident; owned service station
Alfred E. Abate passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 82 years old.
Born in Rahway, N.J., he was a lifelong resident of Rahway and Clark. Mr. Abate served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1962, and went on to own and operate Abate's Service Station in Rahway for many years.
He was a communicant of Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Clark, and loved the New York Yankees, bowling, and golf.
Mr. Abate was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Federico; parents, Anthony and Stella Zullo Abate, and brother, Pasquale "Patsy" Abate.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Anna Zimmerman Abate; son, Anthony A. Abate and his companion, Patty Dacosta of Parlin, N.J.; grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas Abate, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will take place Monday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green St. at Barron Ave., Woodbridge, N.J. Visiting hours will be Monday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Alfred E. Abate may be made to Saint Hubert's Animal Rescue, 575 Woodland Ave., Madison, N.J. 07940 or to the (), 986 South Springfield Ave., Springfield, N.J. 07081.
