Alexander William Mansy
Alexander William Mansy passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the age of 93. He was born in Seattle on November 22, 1925 to Russian and Polish immigrant parents Eugenia Loganoff and William Mansy. After graduation from West Seattle High School, Alex entered the Army as a Russian and Slavic language translator during WWII. He served in the 196th Field Artillery Battalion in Europe, where he received numerous awards including the Bronze Star. After his discharge he attended the University of Washington School of Medicine graduating in 1954. Upon completion of his residency in Radiology at Virginia Mason Hospital, he began his career at Group Health Cooperative and served as Chief Radiologist for over 30 years.
Alex met the love of his life Valentina Alienikoff at their Church Youth Group. Following their marriage in 1950, Val and Alex welcomed daughters Vicki and Sue, whom they raised in their life long home in Seattle. Alex was an accomplished craftsman and enjoyed hours in his home workshop. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling the world. Alex was known as a voracious reader who always had an appetite for new stories. After retirement, Alex became an avid gardener raising both fruits and vegetables. Although he was proud of many accomplishments in his life, Alex's greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his wife Val of 68 years, his daughters, Vicki (Dave) Hulse, Sue (Tom) Harrington, grandchildren, Stephanie, Greg (Rachel), Brian, and Nicholas.
Private services were held at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home. Special thanks to Kline Galland Home for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Seattle Fire Department Medic I.
