Alice E. Krouse
Alice Elizabeth Krouse (Betty) died December 29, 2018, in Seattle at the age of 101-a month short of her 102nd birthday. Betty was born on January 29, 1917, the only daughter of William Thurman Parker and Olive Logan Brown Parker in Princeton, Missouri. She graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, and then attended University of Iowa. Betty married Howard Krouse, MD of Chicago, Illinois in 1942 and enjoyed 76 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. In 1952, Betty and Howard moved to Seattle, where they raised their family.
Betty was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, which she join in 1934. She loved playing golf, and was a member of Jackson Jills Golf Club. (She once got a hole-in-one there.) She golfed until she broke her hip in 2015, at the age of 98. She enjoyed playing bridge, and was a member of a bridge club in Seattle. She loved UW Husky football, which is why she got the nickname Purple Grandma. Betty was PTA President of Laurelhurst Elementary and Eckstein Junior High Schools, as well as her neighborhood block captain. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing the piano, traveling the world, going to the Seattle Rep, gardening, and watching Judge Judy. She ended each day with a gin martini.
Betty was generous, charitable, good-natured, and above all funny. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a terrific friend.
Betty is survived by her children Alan Krouse, MD (Christine); Leslie Vaughan (Duane); Gayle Albert (Dennis); Neal Krouse (Deborah); as well as her 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Betty's life and reception will be held January 27, 2019 at Talaris Conference Center, 4000 NE 41st St, Seattle, WA from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
All of Betty's friends are invited. Dress informally, and wearing purple is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
