Arda Mae Shaffer
1935 ~ 2018
Arda Mae Shaffer passed away December 17, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born February 15, 1935 to Harold Joseph and Bernice Montague Huff in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the first girl born after 4 brothers. She attended Emerson School and Murray High School. She married her sweetheart, Dean Alma Shaffer on September 16, 1950. Dean and Arda had 7 children. Arda was a unique mother. Married at 16, she learned all the tricks to handle her 6 children. Dean and Arda taught their children the rewards of hard work. With her being a great mother, all 6 children graduated from high school and work very hard. Over her lifetime, she worked many jobs; but she ended her career after working many years as a manager at Harmans KFC. Arda had many talents and hobbies - she was an excellent seamstress, cook, canner, crocheted, did macramé, and enjoyed gardening and working in her yard.
Arda was married to Dean for 68 years and leaves a legacy of six children, Debbie (Craig) Wells, Karen (Mark) Christensen, Sharon (Steve) Hogan, Rick (Connie) Shaffer, Terry (Patti) Shaffer, and Sandy Shaffer, 22 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, her sister, Sheila McNeil, brother-in-law, David (Saundra) Shaffer, sister in law, Susan Shaffer, many nephews, cousins and good friends and her little dog, Chico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, her infant daughter Tamara (twin to Sandra) her parents, her four brothers Bill, Benson, Ervin, and Leon, mother-in-law, Oneta Shaffer, father in law, Martin Shaffer, sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Gene) Sain, Boyd, Dale and Gene Shaffer (Dean's twin).
The family would like to thank all who helped her with her many serious injuries and dementia. We want to thank Scott Valgardson, her hospice nurse and compassionate caretaker along with the AFI Hospice staff, Heather Reeves and her entire staff at Sunridge Assisted Living, the entire staff at Pheasant Run Alzheimer's Care Center, with a special thanks to Kelly Zeeman, her end of life nurse at Pheasant Run, who compassionately helped Arda and her family through the last hours of her life allowing her to leave this world peacefully. We have so much joy knowing she can now enjoy the family who went on before her.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1960 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) beginning at 11AM.
