Brenda Joyce Jones Homer
1950 ~ 2019
Brenda Joyce Jones Homer passed away peacefully at home after a valiant struggle against cancer. Although we are heartbroken that she is no longer with us, we are rejoicing that she is free from pain and is enjoying a reunion with those who have gone before.
Brenda was born on February 19, 1950 in San Diego, California to Wayne and Joyce Porter Jones. She was their first of four children, and the apple of her Dad's eye. Brenda grew up in Hood River, Oregon surrounded by her grandparents and cousins.
Brenda dearly loved her brothers, Gary and Ron, and her sister, Margo, and was loved by them in return. She graduated from Hood River High School in 1968 and then moved to Portland with friends where she got a job at Lennox Industries. It was there she met Tim Homer, the son of her new boss, and was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was later baptized and on June 26, 1970, Brenda married Timothy George Homer in Gresham, Oregon. In 1974 they moved to Hunter, Utah where they made their lifelong home.
Tim and Brenda were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1974 and were blessed with five children; one daughter Rebekah and four sons, twins Thomas and Timothy (who died at birth), Ben and Gregory. Brenda loved to travel with her family. Walt Disney World and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania held a tender place in her heart.
Brenda was a gifted writer and artist. She was a hard worker who never asked anyone to do anything that she wasn't willing to do along side them. She was a devoted mother and grandmother; always ready with a cookie, homework help, a hug or anything else if needed. She sought to rescue those around her with service. So often it was her family that benefited from that service, but many members of her community did as well.
She served in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society organizations of the Hunter 6th and 23rd Wards and the Hunter Central Stake. She was a very active supporter in her children's, and later grandchildren's, schooling; taking the opportunities to help with class parties, read with students, chaperone field trips and anything else that needed doing. Brenda was an avid bowler and enjoyed her association with her bowling team, the Alley Cats, for nearly 20 years.
Brenda spent her life primarily as a homemaker and mother so that Tim could meet the demands of his career. She supported him in every endeavor. He had the opportunity to return that service, faithfully caring for her during her yearlong illness. The life they built together was the ultimate example of love and teamwork.
Brenda is survived by her husband Tim and their children; daughter Rebekah (Matt) Pierce of Centerville, UT, son Ben (Shanna) Homer of West Jordan, UT and son Gregory (Sarah) Homer of Castle Rock, CO. She leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: Erin, Allie, Jack and William Pierce; Leah and Andrew Homer; Lizzie, Abbey and Charlotte Homer. Also survived by brothers Gary (Betty) Jones, Ron (Michelle) Jones and sister Margo (Ed) Kittle. Preceded in death by infant sons Timothy Willard and Thomas Wayne Homer, parents Wayne and Joyce Jones and parents-in-law Willard and Shirley Homer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hunter Central Stake Center (3930 South 6000 West, West Valley City, UT).
