Bertha Manning
1913-2019
Bertha Annie Tomlinson Manning, 105, devoted wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2019. Bertha, "Aunt Toots", is survived by her nephew Charles Ed Acton of College Station, Charles Kubin of Houston, and cousins FA and Patsy Klahn of Houston. She is preceded in death by her husband Emmett Manning, her parents Edward and Matilda Tomlinson, sisters Beulah Dossman and Thelma Acton and niece Patricia Kubin and nephew and niece Edwin Jr. and Penney Dossman. She leaves behind many great nephews and nieces that have loved her dearly as well as church friends from West End Church of Christ and Candlelight Church of Christ. Her friends at her home at Brookdale will also miss her greatly.
Bertha was born on December 26, 1913 in Stafford, Texas. She grew up in the Houston area. She married her husband Emmett on September 14, 1933 until he passed away in 1967. She worked at Depelchin Faith Home for many years and then retired and devoted her life to her sister Thelma after her stroke. There were so many wonderful things to say about Bertha "Aunt Toots". She had such a nurturing and giving spirit in all that she did. She loved her church and was a very active member. She was an avid Houston Astros baseball fan and loved nothing more than enjoying the simple things in life such a drinking hot tea to start her morning along with a Coca Cola at some point in her day.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mary Gonzales for her extra love and care for Aunt Toots the last couple of years, the Brookdale staff for providing her a loving home and Hospice Plus for the extra care the last couple of weeks. The funeral will be held on January 16, 2019 at 11:00am at the Candlelight Church of Christ on 4215 Watonga Blvd., Houston, Texas 77092 with reception following in the church reception hall. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Candlelight Church of Christ at 4215 Watonga Blvd., Houston, Texas 77092.
