Alfred "Alf" Johnston Lee
1938-2019
Alfred "Alf" Johnston Lee, beloved son, husband, father, uncle and grandfather passed away on Wednesday, the 2nd of January 2019. He was born on the 20th of December 1938. He graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Maryland and attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Bell, and they were happily married for 60 years. He served in the Maryland National Guard and was a Sergeant in U. S. Army, 110th Field Artillery. After his retirement in 1994 from a lifelong career with The Hartz Mountain Corporation in Baltimore and Dallas, Ellen and Alfred moved to Houston to be closer to their grandchildren.
His love and dedication for family was unconditional. He was a fixture on the sidelines of his grandchildren's countless sporting and school events over the years. He loved to play bridge and to read. Alf always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was kind, generous, and had a great sense of humor. His love for people was demonstrated by his servant heart. He was an amazing son, brother, husband, uncle, father, and grandfather and was a role model for all of his family and friends.
He was loved and adored by everyone who knew him.
Alf is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, siblings, William K. Lee III and Lois Lee Rollins, grandson Johnny Arcidiacono, Jr. (also responsible for the coining the name "Alf") and son-in-law Mark Powell. He is survived by his wife Ellen; daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Johnny Arcidiacono; son, Johnny Lee; daughter Becky Lee Powell; grandchildren Christopher, Joey, and Allie Arcidiacono; Trey Lee; Madison, Boone, and John Luke Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Freda Martin, Telicia Nelson, Doreen Proctor, and Laté Titus for their compassionate care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 18th of January, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions to be directed to Greater Houston Community Foundation for the benefit of the Johnny Arcidiacono Memorial Fund, 515 Post Oak Blvd., Suite 1000 Houston, TX 77027.
