1947-2018
Arturo Castillo passed away on December 31, 2018. He was born on May 15, 1947 in Highlands, Texas and was a 1966 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas. He served three years in the Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Houston. He was employed with the Houston Independent School District for forty years and served as Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. He was most proud of having served as Principal of Memorial Elementary for twenty-three years.
Arturo enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, a sport which he participated in for over twenty years and excelled as a pitcher. He also enjoyed woodworking, making home projects and arts and crafts for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Margarita Sylvia, from Port Arthur, Texas. He is also preceded in death by his parents Juan and Esperanza Castillo of Baytown; brothers Juan Jr., Alejandro, and Arnold Castillo also from Baytown. He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Castillo and his three children; Christopher Castillo and wife Sandra of Channelview, Arturo Gabriel Castillo and wife Veronica of Humble, and Christine Burroughs and husband Jeff of Pearland. He is also survived by his three step-children; Billy Sosa of Spring, Nick Sosa and wife Jessica of Houston, and Michelle Romero and husband Ricky of Humble. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Derika and Adan Castillo and Kai, Noa, and Lailee Burroughs. Also nine step grand-children; Alexis, Chris, Bianca, Ariel, Starla, Destiny, Liam, Nicole, Esmerelda, and Xavier and four great grandchildren; Alecia, Bryson, Bennett, and Avian. He is also survived by his two sisters Linda Castillo Samora and daughter Laurie Cervantes & family, Sylvia Rocha and husband Victor their children, Adrianne Feller and Anthony Rocha, and a host of family and friends to cherish his memory.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, January 6th from 5pm to 9pm with a rosary beginning at 7:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will be held promptly at 10:30am on Monday, January 7th, 2019 at Brookside Funeral Home in the Grand Chapel followed by a burial in Brookside Memorial Park and Cemetery.
