SEHER, Ann Carver Hammond Ann Carver Hammond Seher, fantastic mother and wife, and founder of the Dallas dating service Someone Special, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2018. She was 84. Mrs. Seher, formerly of Scroggins, Texas, and late of Belen, NM, ran Someone Special with her business partner, Zella Case. Together the duo matched thousands of couples between the late 1960s and the 1990s, resulting in untold numbers of marriages, children and grandchildren. Someone Special is believed to have been the first "computer" dating service in the United States. It also was among the earliest adopters of personal ads to facilitate introductions, which led to the development of Mirror Magazine. Mrs. Seher served as publisher from 1982 to 1986. Mrs. Seher was born July 29, 1934, in Kenosha, Wis., and raised in Appleton, Wis. She met and married Jack Seher in Milwaukee. Then, when he was transferred to Dallas in 1960, the couple never looked back. They have two children: Kristine (Brad) Hughes of Belen and Bobby (Dorie) Seher of Lake Highlands. The family initially resided in North Dallas, where the children attended Thomas Jefferson High School and it's feeder campuses Walnut Hill Elementary and E.J. Cary Junior High. When the kids left home, the couple moved to an early phase of the Valley Ranch planned development in Irving. They later retired to Lake Cypress Springs near Mount Vernon, Texas. Mrs. Seher's husband of 58 years preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three of five siblings. For the last five years of her life she lived with her daughter in Rowlett, Texas, and then Belen, where she died. She is survived by her children; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Hammond of Milwaukee and Chris "Kit" Borggren of Weaverville, Calif; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
