Sister Antoinette Iorio, MPF
of Religious Teachers Filippini, taught elementary grades
Sr. Antoinette Iorio, MPF, 98, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2019, at St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, N.J., surrounded by sisters of the community.
The viewing will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Rev. Ron Sordillo, chaplain of St. Joseph Hall, will be the celebrant for the Mass. Interment will be in the Ave Maria Cemetery at Villa Walsh. Arrangements are by the Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown.
Sr. Antoinette was born and raised in New York City. She entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1937, and received her habit in 1939. Her final religious profession was in 1942.
Sr. Antoinette was awarded a BS degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. Throughout her teaching profession, Sr. Antoinette taught grades three to five in the Archdioceses of Newark and N.Y. and in the Dioceses of Trenton and Camden, N.J.
When she was no longer involved in teaching, she assisted as a school librarian and later as a school assistant. Sister Antoinette also served as local superior at St. James in Trenton, N.J.
When returning to Villa Walsh in 1997, Sister Antoinette took charge of the Villa gift shop and assisted in other areas of service until she was no longer able. Her greatest ambition was to remain active and helpful wherever needed. In January 2017, when no longer able, she became a resident at St. Joseph Hall, Home Healthcare Center for the Filippini Sisters.
Sr. Antoinette was predeceased by parents, Michael Yorio and Filomena (Crisci) Yorio; brothers, Paul Iorio, Angelo Yorio, and Joseph Yorio, and sister, Mary Staltare. She is survived by brother-in-law, Peter Staltare, beloved nieces and nephews.
