Helen Gotses Hud

December 15, 1924 – December 25, 2018 Helen Gotses Hud was born in Los Angeles, California, to Constantine Gotses, an immigrant from Greece, and Frances Gotses (née Kern), an immigrant from Slovenia. Helen attended Saint Vincent Elementary School, Los Angeles Catholic Girls' High School, and Queen of Angels School of Nursing. She married Joseph Anton Hud in 1949. Together they raised four children, Marianna (J. Steven) Crider, Theresa (Richard) Ortega, Joseph (Karey) Hud, Jr., and Nicholas (Mona) Hud. As a Registered Nurse she cared for patients for more than 30 years at various hospitals, including the VA, St. Joseph's in Burbank, and Serra Memorial in Sun Valley. The second half of her career was dedicated to nursing and hospital administration, serving in various roles in Quality Assurance and Utilization Review, including 15 years in the Medical Unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, from which she retired in 2006 at the age of 81. During her retirement she founded the Health Ministry at her parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Tujunga, CA. Her final four years were spent in Helena, MT, with her two daughters and their families. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2010, and by her brother, Nicholas Gotses, who was killed in combat in WWII. She is survived by her 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4th at St. Mary Catholic Community in Helena, MT. A reception will follow mass at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N.
