Amber Jane Berlinger was born to Alice and Al Conner in the Mar Vista area of West Los Angeles May 23, 1939. At age 17, while attending Venice High School, she met her future husband of 59 years, Lee, on a blind date. They were married in 1959.She attended UC Santa Barbara and UCLA. School was interrupted for a time with the birth of their son Tod. Jane got her Bachelor's degree at Cal State University and later a Master's degree. Her teaching career began briefly in Los Angeles.The family moved to Huntington Beach in 1966 and Jane continued teaching. After daughter Jenny arrived, Jane left work for a few years. She spent 30 years teaching mostly 1*' graders and loved it. It was joyful and rewarding for her to see her 6 year olds develop and become proficient in their skills.In retirement Jane enjoyed her four grandchildren, Sienna, Logan, Quinn and Matthew. She loved sports, playing bridge and sailing. The family had many enjoyable vacations at Catalina. She joined the American Association of University Women, a group that advocates for women and girls. She served in many capacities including branch president and developed many friendships in the process.Jane is survived by her husband Lee, son Tod (Audrey) of Santa Barbara, daughter Jenny of San Clemente, brother Fred of Las Vegas and sister Melinda (Frank) of Olympia, Washington.Jane passed away peacefully from pulmonary disease on January 5, 2019 with her loved ones by her side. A celebration of her life is being planned.The family has established 'The Jane Berlinger Memorial Scholarship" at Golden West College to honor her memory.
