Betsy Peck Berry, nee Betsy Bob Parrish, was born on March 6, 1918. She died on December 31, 2018. She was predeceased by her mother, Corrinna Harte Parrish, her father, George Hawkins Parrish and her two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Dorothy Jackson.
Betsy grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from the Rowland Hall School for Girls, in Salt Lake and the University of Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art.
She married George Wallace (Wally) Peck on September 28, 1940. Their only child, George Wallace Peck III was born on March 10, 1943. Betsy and Wally lived in Salt Lake and spent much of their spare time fishing and hunting in Utah and Wyoming.
Wally died in January of 1968. In 1974, Betsy married her old friend James Gibson Berry. Jim's work took the couple to Portland, Oregon where Betsy became an accomplished golfer. In addition to playing golf with the King City Beaverton Belles, she also had golf memberships at Progress Downs in Portland and the Summerfield Golf Course in Tigard,. Betsy was a member of the Portland Assistance League, The Century Club for Women, Master Gardeners and the Broadmoore Women's Club. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs. With her good friend, Margo Bennett, she partnered to play for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Aid Society.
When her husband, James Berry, died in June 1993, Betsy continued to live in their house in Summerfield and, years later, met her good friend and companion, Richard Thurin.
They often traveled to Hawaii and to his second home on the Columbia River.
In 2015 she broke her hip. After her recovery, she sold her home on the Summerfield Golf Course and took up residence at the Summerfield Estates in Tigard, Oregon. After a year there she took an apartment at the new Bonaventure Retirement Home on SW Hall Boulevard in Tigard.
Surviving Betsy are; her son George and his wife Patricia, her grandchildren Sarah (Steve), Matthew, and Jessica and her great-grandchild, Dani Rose. Also surviving Betsy are her stepchildren Lindy, Marilyn (Byron) and Katherine, her nieces and nephews: Sidney, Brad, Terry, Peter, Bob and Pamela. A stepson, James Berry, a niece, Corrinna Aragon and a nephew, William Groen, predeceased Betsy.
At last count Betsy had 11 grand and step-grandchildren and 16 great-grand and step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Betsy will be held in Salt Lake City in the summer.
