Gladys Lucia Fehrenbach
Died
Gladys Lucia Fehrenbach
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, Pequannock resident for over 50 years
Gladys Lucia Fehrenbach died peacefully in Randolph, N.J., at the age of 93 with her youngest daughter, Krista, at her side.
Gladys resided in Pequannock, N.J., for over 50 years with her husband, Herbert Frank Fehrenbach, who died in 2012; there they raised their five children. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Pompton Plains, N.J., for over a half-century.
Gladys was born in Michigan on November 23, 1926, to Rudolph Kieselat and Martha Kieselat (nee Stelling). She was the third child of nine; all of her siblings predeceased her. As a young woman, Gladys enjoyed roller skating; she met her future husband, Herbert, at Paramus Skating Rink. They were acquainted only briefly before he was drafted into the army and ultimately shipped to Korea. Their romance blossomed through wartime letter-writing, and when Herb returned stateside in 1953, they married. Gladys was a stay-at-home mother when her children were young but re-entered the workforce in the 1970s. She retired from Verizon, after many years as a telephone operator and supervisor.
In her spare time, Gladys loved spending time with family, reading, watching her favorite television shows, and nibbling on sweets. She appreciated beautiful things - music and roses, in particular. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch chatting with family and neighbors when weather permitted, family vacations in Maine, and spending weekends with her husband at their acreage in Van Etten, N.Y., especially when accompanied by their first grandson, Trevor.
Gladys was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Lori Fehrenbach of Factoryville, Pa.; Heide Fehrenbach (husband David J. Buller) of DeKalb, Ill.; Robin Scala (husband Joseph Scala) of Factoryville, Pa.; and Krista Fehrenbach (husband John Gallucci) of Hopatcong, N.J.; and by her pampered only son, Herb Jr. (husband Keith Zyla) of Asbury Park, N.J., and Millstone, N.J. She was a doting grandmother to her beloved grandsons, Trevor Joseph Scala (wife Cheri Scala) of Factoryville, Pa.; David Herbert Buller of DeKalb, Ill.; and Arent Oak Moore of Factoryville, Pa.; and to her sweet great-granddaughter Macey Scala and great-grandson Francis Herbert Scala.
Gladys will be cremated and her family will hold a private graveside service at a later date. For memorial donations, please consider a charity of a your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, N.J.
