Died
Donald "Don" Leon Grieb, Jr.
1952-2020
Donald "Don" Leon Grieb, Jr. of Houston, Texas, entered into the presence of his Heavenly Savior on March 3, 2020, as a result of an airplane accident near Athens, Georgia, while on a business trip in South Carolina.
Don was born on October 11, 1952, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Donald L. Grieb, Sr. and Nancy Linn Grieb. Don grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with degrees in Master of Architecture and Master of Business Administration. While attending U of I, Don was captain of the gymnastics team competing on the men's high bar and pommel horse. Don earned a bronze medal on the high bar in the Olympic Nationals qualifying competition. Don was a registered architect in Texas and Georgia. While working for Gerald H. Hines Interests, his first project as project manager was the Wortham Theater. Don's next endeavor involved the Ravinia Project in Altanta, Georgia, where he first heard and accepted the free gift of eternal life as a result of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Moving to Boston, he did asset management for Aldrich, Eastman and Waltch. Don continued to use his gifts of planning to manage projects like the Las Vegas permanent theater for "Phantom of the Opera". Don was in charge of the recent remodeling of the Carrabbas restaurant at Woodway and Voss. Projects dear to Don were the building of his church, Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in 2003 and all the many building projects at Veritas Christian Academy in Bellaire, where he was secretary on the board.
Don lived life to the fullest with traveling, exercising, walking with his wife, and scuba diving vacations with his family. For over 10 years Don was a member of a Christian couples' small group that grew out of the Berean singles class at First Presbyterian in the 1980's. These friends watched and prayed together as their families grew and their children were launched. His great friend, business partner and small group member, Chris Weber, died in the same airplane accident.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, Diane Ford Grieb, daughter Gina Marie Grieb, son Gavin Lee Grieb and fiancée Ashley Rebecca Hale of Miami, Florida. He is also survived by his mother to whom he was dedicated, his sister and brother-in-law, Linn and Don Wright, numerous aunts and cousins as well as countless extended family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 8300 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, on Saturday, March 14th, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church (8300 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024), Veritas Christian Academy (7000 Ferris St, Bellaire, TX 77401), or a .
