Bruce E. Abbott, 79, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020. Bruce was a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains, N.J.
Bruce was a graduate of Scotch Plains Fanwood High School, class of 1958. He enlisted in the Army in 1962, and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict before being honorably discharged in 1965. Bruce worked as a letter carrier in Scotch Plains before becoming Postmaster in 1984.
Bruce was romantic, humorous and devoted to his family, his friends, and his country.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gay Abbott; his two daughters, Cindy McQuoid and her husband, Michael and their children, Matt, Joe, Melissa, Sam and Jordan and Alicia O'Connor and her husband, Ed and their children, Erin, Brendan and Sean and by his brother, Paul Abbott and his wife, Glenda and their children, Brian and Allison. He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Virginia Abbott and by his sister, Pat Guerard.
A memorial gathering will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, N.J., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.
