Adam M. Stanislawczyk 'Mr. Stan'
Lifelong educator who loved his family and baseball
Adam M. Stanislawczyk, 87, died Jan. 4, 2020, at Fairfax Hospital. A resident of Fairfax, Va., for the past 6 months, he lived most of his life in Colonia, Brick, and Hamilton N.J.
Loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, Adam was born to Frank and Rose Stanislawczyk on Dec. 24, 1932, in Newark N.J. He attended St. Benedict's Prep and graduated from Seton Hall University with a master's degree in classical languages and education. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston. Adam taught English and Latin for 35 years in Newark; notably at East Side and Science High Schools, serving as chairman of the English Department. Known as "Mr. Stan," he was also a faculty member at Middlesex Community College and taught ESL In Princeton. He continued to teach as a substitute at Red Bank Catholic HS and St. Rose of Lima.
He loved his family, and he loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He played the accordion and sang in the church choir at St. John Vianney Church. He enjoyed summers in Wildwood Crest and was fiercely proud of his Polish heritage. Most of all, he loved to be with his family for special celebrations.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Pyzik), who predeceased him, as did his son, David Stanislawczyk, his granddaughter, Emily, and his brother, Edward. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Garcia (Michael) of Arlington Va.; son, Daniel Stanislawczyk (Melinda) of Lake Worth Fla.; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Stanislawczyk of Kendall Park, N.J.; grandchildren, Adam, Stefanie (Aaron), Jessica, Luke, Noah and Ella; great grandson, Gabriel, and sister, Loretta Risko (Charlie) of Jackson, N.J.
Friends can call on Friday, Jan. 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Va. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 5300 10th St. N, Arlington, Va. Interment will be at Brigadier General William Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J., on Tuesday Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
The family thanks the staff at Inova Fairfax Hospital for their loving care in his final days.
