Retired West Orange police captain was grandfather of three
Alfonso Anthony Battaglino, 81, passed away on Dec. 13, 2019, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, N.J.
He was born in East Orange, N.J., raised in West Orange, N.J., and settled in Denville, N.J., in 1975. Alfonso later moved to Manalapan, N.J., in 2000 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He was the police captain in West Orange for many years and retired in 1987.
Alfonso served in the United States Air Force. He was very passionate about spending quality time with his grandchildren and made sure to attend every sporting event.
Alfonso was predeceased by his brother, Jack Battaglino.
He is survived by his daughter, Dionne Battaglino-Trainor and her husband Patrick F. Trainor Jr. of Freehold, N.J.; grandchildren, Hannah, Kyle, and Jack; siblings, Michael Battaglino of Denville, and Roseanne Freda and her husband Joseph of Middletown, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Rd. (Route 524), Freehold Township, on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private. For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit claytonfuneralhome.com
