Albert R. Peraza

Died

Albert R. Peraza, a 63-year resident of Anaheim, CA, passed away on September 11, 2019, at the age of 86. Albert was born on June 27, 1933 in Jerome, AZ. After surviving osteosarcoma as a teenager, he attended Arizona State College, now Northern Arizona University, and received his BA in Education. It was there that he met the love of his life, Rachel Ceballos. Albert and Rachel were married in Winslow, AZ on August 18, 1956 and moved to Anaheim where Albert began his career as a teacher. He was an elementary school teacher in Anaheim for 19 years, first teaching at Palm Lane Elementary School and then at Adelaide Price. Furthering his own education, he received an MS in Education from California State College at Fullerton, did post-graduate work both in psychometry at Cal State Fullerton and in administration at Chapman College and was subsequently hired by the La Habra City School District, where he worked as an elementary school principal and Director of their Head Start program for 15 years. Albert's passion in life was service to his community and the city of Anaheim. Throughout his years he served on many Boards and Commissions, devoting time to the Anaheim YMCA Board, the Personnel Commission for Anaheim Union High Schools, the Anaheim Utility Board Commission and the Anaheim Parks and Recreation Commission. He served as an Anaheim City School Board Member for 13 years and was on the Anaheim Planning Commission for 9 years. His service to Anaheim only ended after suffering a paralyzing stroke in 1999. Albert was a lover of family, friends and community. He enjoyed ice cream, See's Candies, crossword puzzles and newspapers, faithfully reading the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times each and every day for the last 20 years of his life. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rachel. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Peraza and Kathleen Garcia, his son-in-law, Valentin Garcia, grandchildren Michelle (David) Scharfe, Andrew (Jessica) Garcia, Matthew Garcia, and Amanda Garcia, and his great-grandchildren, Eli, Evangeline, Ezekiel, Ephraim Scharfe and Benjamin Garcia. Services for Albert will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. Boniface Church in Anaheim beginning with the Rosary at 9:30 AM, to be followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM.
