Anne Margaret Hempel
Died
Anne Margaret Hempel
Matriarch and longtime Linden resident
Anne Margaret Hempel, 86, a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Sarasota, Fla., and Linden, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in Cape Coral, Fla., joining her beloved husband, Ernie, and son, Bobby.
She was born May 14, 1933 in Jersey City, N.J., to Charles and Petronella Butkus, now deceased.
Anne lived her life to the fullest. While raising a young family, Anne owned and operated a small business, A & A Keypunch Service with Annie Paterek of Brick, N.J., who became a lifelong friend and confidante. Despite the devastating losses she experienced in her lifetime, Anne chose to be an independent and fun loving woman. She enjoyed shopping, thrifting, fashion, dancing, casino trips, and socializing with friends. She was one of the Golden Girls who enjoyed a recent last minute adventure to Atlantic City, N.J., with friend, Terry Anderson, and her sister of the heart, Judy Sirois. Anne loved volunteering to help the less fortunate and always had a kind word and a smile for a stranger. Anne had served as a Deacon in the Linden Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three loving children, Susan Gorombey (Steve) of Cape Coral, Fla., Peggy Hempel-Rodimer (Jeff) of Mountainside, N.J., and John Hempel (Ellyn) of Whitestone, N.Y.; brother, Charles Butkus of Freehold, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Lia Hempel; seven grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Christopher, and Jonathan Gorombey, as well as John, Brian, Lyndsey, and Thomas Hempel.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hempel, who passed away in 1991; her son, Robert Hempel; as well as her brother, Anthony Butkus.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date at Campo Felice in Fort Myers, Fla., and also in New Jersey.
