ANDERSON, JR., Alfred William Alfred William Anderson, Jr. was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 2, 1937 to Louise and Alfred Anderson, Sr., joining an adoring big sister, Nell. It was evident early on that Al was a remarkable achiever when he was double promoted while a student at O. M. Roberts Elementary. Also as an enterprising youth, he had business cards made for a professional photography endeavor and at the age of 11, Al began working as a women's shoe salesman at Volk's Department Store. At J. L. Long Junior High he met his future wife, Jill Smart. In 1954 at the age of 16, he and Jill married, he graduated from Crozier Tech, and they had their first child, Joslyn. Starting from the ground up in the back office, he learned the brokerage business. In 1956, Al was hired as a runner at Dallas Rupe and Sons beginning what would be an illustrious career in the securities industry spanning 45 years and including Eppler, Guerin & Turner, Inc., A. W. Anderson & Co., Jefferies & Co., Inc., Schneider, Bernet & Hickman, Inc., Nash, Weiss & Co., Rauscher, Pierce, Refsnes & Co. and Coastal Securities. At age 22, he was one of the youngest trading department managers in the country. Both his knowledge and his philosophy regarding trading were respected and sought out by many throughout the industry which led him to serve on numerous boards including The Council on Economic Education and Coastal Securities. He was twice president of the Dallas Security Dealers Association and was chairman of the Security Traders Association in 1994. Al's upbringing in First Presbyterian Church of Dallas formed a strong foundation for his spiritual beliefs. He and Jill became faithful members of Casa View Christian Church along with their children, Joslyn, Natalie, Kristen and Trey. The family was deeply entrenched and Al filled multiple roles from elder and deacon to youth group sponsor to providing building repairs and carpentry needs, another area of his expertise. In addition to being skilled as a carpenter, Al was a fine woodworker and designed and built beautiful furniture pieces. He also enjoyed cars and considered himself a gearhead, once completely restoring a 1964 Jaguar. He also learned welding. His multiple talents paired with his enormous generosity left some fortunate recipients with a one of a kind Al Anderson original creation. Al had varied interests such as art, music, theater, travel and sailing. He was on the boards of Theatre Three, Dallas Theater Center and Disciples of Trinity and gave much time and resources to these organizations. He and Jill were blessed to be able to visit all seven continents and made friends all over the world. When Jill's health declined, Al was her faithful caregiver until her passing in 2017 after 63 years of marriage. Facing his own health issues, Al continued to pursue his passions and to live life to the fullest, grateful for every moment. He began new projects in his workshop and thoroughly enjoyed making his well- manicured lawn even more beautiful. In recent months a steady stream of visits and phone calls with both new and longtime friends brought him immeasurable joy. His greatest fulfillment was in the time with his family. On August 19, 2019, Al's enormous, wonderful, generous heart of gold had grown weak and he went to his heavenly reward just 17 days after his 82nd birthday. Al Anderson was a born leader, a mentor, a giver, a true friend and a gentleman. He gave countless young men and women a springboard to be successful in business and made a positive impact on so many lives. He was a man of many words and his stories will be especially missed. Al is survived by his sister, Nell Baker, daughter and son-in-law, Joslyn and Robin Crews, daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and David Breeden, former son-in-law, Ken Carson, son Trey Anderson, grandchildren Alison (Jeff) Wroblewski, Caroline Crews, Peter (Mackenzie) Breeden, Graham Breeden, Laura Breeden, Leslie Breeden, Sarah (Kevin) Arens, Hannah Carson, great grandchildren Jonathan, Noah and Lucas Arens, nieces and nephews Lee and Lisa Baker, Mary Lou and James Dove and children Christina and Ashley, niece Alanna Jennifer Smart. Also left to cherish his memory is his sweetheart, Lisa Krebs, and her family. Preceding him in death were his wife, Jill Smart Anderson, daughter, Natalie Carson, his parents, Louise and Alfred Anderson, Sr., brother-in-law, Roy Baker, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Sharon Smart.
