U.S. Navy veteran, dedicated Cedar Grove Fire Dept. volunteer
Alfred R. Giancola Sr., 91, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on July 21, 2019.
Services will begin on Friday, July 26, at 9 a.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove, with entombment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Freddie was a lifelong resident of Cedar Grove. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and then the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a postal worker for the Cedar Grove Post Office for 36 years. He was a member of the American Legion Little Falls Post 121 and the VFW Cedar Grove Post 6255. For 66 years, he was a dedicated volunteer with the Cedar Grove Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Yolanda Giancola; Ida Giancola (nee Capitanelli) his beloved wife of 68 years, and his sister, Henrietta Basile.
Surviving are his beloved children, Linda Jacobus (John), Alfred R. Jr. (Carol), Raymond (Linda) and Joyce Ober (Robert); 10 cherished grandchildren, and eight treasured great-grandchildren.
