Loving family man, retired Plainfield business owner, born in Italy
Angelo DeCristofaro, age 82, of North Plainfield, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at Kindred Hospital at St. Claires in Dover, N.J.
He was born in 1936, to his late parents Giovanbattista and Barbara DeCristofaro in Castel di Sasso, Italy. At the age of 14, Angelo immigrated to Plainfield, N.J., and resided there until 1966 when he moved to North Plainfield.
He was a graduate of Plainfield High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year.
Angelo started his career as an electrician. He then went into business with his brother, John, and founded G&A Shell Service in Plainfield in 1965. Later, they opened G&A Auto Repair in 1984 which they owned and operated, finally retiring in 1999.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in North Plainfield.
Angelo loved telling jokes, sharing trivia, and playing solitaire, but most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, three girls and their husbands, and six granddaughters, whose company he always cherished. In addition, he enjoyed entertaining good friends and family.
Angelo was predeceased by his brothers, Gaetano, Giuseppe, and Giovanni.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angelina DeCristofaro; his daughters, Barbara and her husband, Billy, Lisa and her husband, Scott, and Maria and her husband, Michael; six granddaughters: Alexandra Rae, Rebecca Lee, Julianna Marie, Nicole Lee, Raegan Lee, and Jade Marie. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gilda DeCristofaro, other in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, N.J. A funeral gathering will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, North Plainfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J.
